The Monastery and Notorious Pub (7-9)

Jason's class today. We painted in Corciano at the monastery looking down into the city. It was really hot and I decided to do a large canvas so I didn't finish the painting yet but I plan on finishing it this weekend. We also had midterms today, so we had to bring in our best paintings from the summer along with our sketch books. Jason thought the watercolors I did for my sketchbook were nice along with the small paintings that I did. He encouraged me to continue to do sketches in paint. I am so glad about this because I really can't stand sketching with pencil in a sketch book. It is too confining to me. I would rather draw with charcoal really big or with paint. Ultimately he just wants us to draw or paint from life A LOT.

At night we went out to dinner at a restaurant, called The Notorious Pub that had a lot of history for Jason. He and his grad school friends used to go to this bar and draw people back in the day when he was in school. They had an amazing menu with food that included items with names like "Stinky" = a roasted pork leg. I tried it, it was amazing. Sean ordered the largest antipasto plate I have seen. He also showed me how to fold a box and make a wallet from our place mats. I also suggested that we go around the table and make crazy faces while Allison takes our photos (pics to come.) It was great because everyone got into it.

Allison, Jen and I had already eaten so we ended up just getting beer to share. We had LARGE bottles of Maredsous 8 (dark beer) and Westmalle Triple (light beer.) So far it was without a doubt the BEST beer I have had since I have been here. BUT they were made in Belgium (Belgio) and not Italy. Oh well…. I drank them in Italy :)
