Umbertide

Today we went to Umbertide, a town about 20 minutes away from Corciano. We set up to paint by a river that ran under a bridge. I was determined to do a good painting. In the end, I was not at all happy with it…..mainly because I couldn't finish it (most of us weren't able to finish because we had to stop painting a little after lunch time.)

During lunch most people went into town to eat and look around, but I stayed and painted. I am glad I got to do that, but it might have been nice to see more of the town. But I did get to see it during the critique.

So when it was time for the critique I was assuming I would here all of the bad things that I needed to fix. BUT instead it was actually a good critique and I got some good feedback from Jason.

He said the painting had a good lead into it due to an "S" curve composition and that it had a good triangle composition (he told me I should do that because I was initially going for a symmetric composition.) He also said that the trees had good form, that there was good reflection in the water, and that it was good even though I had not finished. Turns out that someone asked him if they could buy it when I wasn't around. (WHAT!?!?! Awesome!) But he told them it was 50 euro (yikes) so they didn't buy it. I am not surprised for that price, but it felt really good that someone would want to by something I created (especially since it was so NOT DONE.) I wouldn't have sold it though because I really want to finish it. Did I just say that? :)

I plan on finishing it tonight but I am going to be pressed for time because I have to pack and get ready to go to VENICE tomorrow. WOO HOO!!!! I am SO excited!

Wow, Sola, I love going to your site and instantly I'm transported to Italy with you! The pictures, the stories, the paintings, love it all!
I'm sorry I missed your call a few weeks ago, I was in class. So much is going on here too, I'm filming my thesis next Saturday! and classes are keeping me ridiculously busy as well. I can't wait till you come back and we can all get together again. We haven't been in a group since you left! It's official, you're the catalyst that keeps us together. Enjoy your time abroad as we all look forward to your return!

Love,
~Melissa
